Tadmor

Palmyra is an ancient Semitic city in present-day Homs Governorate, Syria. Palmyra is the Greek name of the city, derived from its original Aramaic name “Tademo” (Tadmor), meaning “palm tree”. It is an important transit point for caravans crossing the Syrian desert along the Silk Road and an important commercial centre.

Our story is about the most successful, greatest woman on this land , the empress of Palmyra: Queen Zenobia, who rebelled against Rome and established the Palmyrene Empire. Zenobia died after 274, and many tales have been recorded about her fate. Her rise and fall have inspired historians, artists and novelists, and she is a national hero in Syria. We wanted to restore Palmira’s architecture, landscape and various cultural landscapes from her perspective. The process of her growing up from a little girl to a queen is also the process of Palmira gradually becoming prosperous. We hope visitors will learn more about Palmyra that was occupied and destroyed by ISIL through our stories and appreciate its beauty.
